The 1st Hydrogen Congress for Latin America & the Caribbean (H2LAC 2021) took place from April 14-15, 2021.

Co-hosted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and comprising a full two days of Virtual Conference (April 14-15, 2021) followed by a LAC Hydrogen Government Roundtable (April 22, 2021), it was the most significant gathering of the nascent Hydrogen market in the region to date.

The Hydrogen market in Latin America and the Caribbean has the feel of the renewables market in the region 10 years ago. The noise is deafening, the hype overwhelming – but there is little to show for it yet. Upstream and downstream the potential is enormous; but so is the challenge. Latin America has become a world leader in the adoption of renewables. What do we need to do to replicate that success and build a decarbonizing, economy-lifting, competitiveness-driving industry for the region?

H2LAC gathered regional stakeholders and global industry leaders to address the pivotal questions. What role can Hydrogen play in the region’s clean energy transition? Can Hydrogen decarbonize regional industries and transportation? Can Hydrogen help reactivate Latin American and Caribbean economies? More importantly, how do we move on all of this potential? How do we convert this momentum into policy, programs, and projects?

Ultimately H2LAC served to accelerate the development of a world-leading Hydrogen industry across Latin America and the Caribbean.
