President Obama to make clean energy pledge With Canada & Mexico at summit

North America will get half of its power from clean energy sources by 2025. This was the outcome from the “Three Amigos Summit” which brought President Obama together with leaders from Mexico and Canada. The pledge by all three countries is to obtain energy from renewable sources, nuclear power, power plants that utilize carbon capture and storage, and energy efficiency. Projects will enhance efforts already in operation; according to the White House, 37% of North America’s energy was “clean” in 2015. Senior Advisor to the President, Brian Deese, said that the Clean Power Plan and policies like the expansion of tax credits for the production of wind and solar will increase the U.S. share of clean energy generation. Although the upcoming U.S. election raises concerns about whether those policies will be enacted under a new administration.
