Petrobras has signed a contract with Halliburton to drill and complete four onshore wells for the São Tomé CCS Pilot Project in Rio de Janeiro, the first project in Latin America to test carbon capture, transport and storage in a saline reservoir. The pilot aims to capture and store up to 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually for three years, with infrastructure expected to be completed by 2028 and operations beginning in 2029.
