Jamaican Government Saves $80 Million through Energy Efficiency and Conservation Projects

Since 2011, The Jamaican government has saved $80 million on its electricity bills through a partnership with the IDC called the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program (EECP).

Energy usage has been reduced by replacing outdated air conditioning units and lighting and by installing central cooling, solar film and windows and by painting roofs.

According to Wayne Williams, EECP Project Manager in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, the programme, which was scheduled to end this year, is being extended for two more years due to its high success rate.
