The 1st Latin American ESG Markets Summit gathered issuers, investors and sell-side to accelerate the growth of sustainability-linked capital-raising across the region.

Sustainable debt markets are here to stay. Global debt issuance raced through the US$3 trillion milestone in 2021 with, according to Refinitiv, US$859 billion sold in 2021 alone. In Latin America, 2021 was a banner year for the region with issuance up substantially over 2020’s $16.9 billion, up in turn 82% over 2019.

Investor demand for Latin American paper is high – albeit tempered by increasing concerns over greenwashing – and there is huge potential for growth, both for green issuance and other sustainability-linked offerings. Over the course of a packed day, we explored the potential for sustainable instruments to transform corporate and sovereign borrowing programs, shined a spotlight on successful first movers in the market, and promoted vital new relationships as a means to catalyze the development of the market.

ESG Markets LatAm is conceived as an event in two parts. First up, the virtual event in March. Then - in October 2022 - we'll gather the market for an all-singing in-person event in Miami.

Across both events, the Latin American ESG Markets Summit is the meeting place for the market and the venue where ESG capital-raising across the region goes mainstream.
