CDB approves funding for a more climate-resilient Caribbean transport sector

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) will provide US$768,000 in funding to address damage to Caribbean road networks, caused by natural hazards. Financing will enable a study on approaches for constructing road infrastructures that are more resilient to the effects of climate change. CDB director of projects, Daniel Best, noted that agencies of the bank’s borrowing member countries (BMCs) have not mainstreamed changes in the construction and management of road networks. The limited availability of tools and data have impeded the development of better infrastructure across the region. The study will focus on an assessment of policies and strategies, gender-sensitive climate risks, and develop an index to identify the best areas for investment to affect adaptation and resilience. Previously designed tools will assist the formation of the study in two member countries selected for the pilot project.
