Maria Rojas González is Head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Representation to the Anglophone Caribbean and Regional Development Banks, based in Barbados. She leads the Bank’s engagement with governments, regional institutions, investors and development partners across the Caribbean, mobilising investment for sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience and private sector growth.

As EIB’s senior representative in the region, Maria advances the European Union’s Global Gateway agenda, supporting the identification, preparation and financing of transformative projects in sectors including water and sanitation, renewable energy, resilient transport, digital infrastructure and sustainable food systems. Her work focuses on unlocking investment opportunities, developing bankable projects and building strategic partnerships that strengthen resilience, competitiveness and sustainable economic growth across Caribbean economies.

With more than 20 years of experience spanning international banking and development finance, Maria brings deep expertise in project finance, blended finance, capital markets and investment structuring. Before joining the EIB in 2014, she held senior roles within Commerzbank Group and Santander Group.

She has worked extensively with Small Island Developing States in both the Pacific and Caribbean regions, helping to deliver innovative financing solutions for critical infrastructure and climate adaptation investments.

Maria holds degrees in Business Administration and Law from Universidad Carlos III of Madrid and is a CFA Charterholder.
