Director, Corporate Banking - BVI and Cayman Islands
Gemel started his regional banking career in 2004 with FirstCaribbean International Bank (Barbados) Ltd as Associate Director, Capital Markets, and has worked on large, corporate and infrastructure financings in sectors that include airports, ports and energy throughout the Caribbean region. In his current role, Gemel has also been involved in the structuring and financing of renewable energy projects including both utility scale solar and commercial scale solar projects. Gemel led the CIBC FirstCaribbean team that executed the financing of the first utility scale solar project on Grand Cayman, a transaction that won the award for “Best Project Financing” at the 2017 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF). Prior to joining CIBC FirstCaribbean, Gemel was based in Toronto where he worked as a Senior Financial Analyst with Bank of Montreal in their Corporate and Investment Banking division and also as a Strategy Consultant with Deloitte Consulting in their Toronto Financial Services practice.
Gemel holds a Master of Business Administration from University of Western Ontario, a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder.
