Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Works
With more than two decades of dedicated service within the Ministry of Transport and Works, Dr. Romel Springer brings extensive experience and a deep understanding of Barbados’ transportation and infrastructure sectors. Throughout his career, he has developed significant expertise in road infrastructure development, public transportation management, and the planning and delivery of critical national infrastructure.
Dr. Springer currently serves as Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Works, with responsibility for Building Standards. In this capacity, he provides strategic leadership on matters relating to the development of resilient and sustainable infrastructure, with a particular focus on strengthening Barbados’ road networks to respond effectively to the impacts of climate change, increasing traffic volumes, and evolving national transportation needs.
Prior to his appointment as Minister, Dr. Springer gained extensive practical experience working alongside frontline and technical personnel across the Ministry. This hands-on exposure afforded him a comprehensive understanding of the Ministry’s operations, from the implementation of projects at the operational level to the broader policy and strategic considerations that influence national infrastructure development. His experience has informed a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to leadership, grounded in an appreciation of both the technical demands of infrastructure delivery and the needs of the communities served.
Dr. Springer is also committed to advancing safe, reliable, affordable, and accessible public transportation throughout Barbados. He recognizes the critical role of an effective transportation system in supporting economic activity, improving connectivity, strengthening social inclusion, and enhancing the overall quality of life of citizens.
Through his leadership, Dr. Springer continues to support the development of resilient infrastructure and sustainable transportation systems that are responsive to Barbados’ present needs while positioning the country to meet the demands of future generations.
