David Nygaard is Chief Representative for Export Development Canada (EDC), covering the Andean region, Central America, and the Caribbean, based in Bogotá, Colombia.

He brings more than 25 years of international experience across the public and private sectors, with deep expertise in global trade, infrastructure, and energy. Since joining EDC in 2016, David has held senior roles across the energy and mining sectors, managing relationships with many of Canada’s largest corporate clients and supporting their international growth through EDC’s full suite of financing and risk mitigation solutions.

Prior to EDC, David led business development efforts in Houston for Canadian oilfield services firms and served as Director of Alberta’s representation at the Embassy of Canada in Mexico, where he advanced bilateral collaboration initiatives.

David holds an Honours degree from the University of Calgary, an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona, and is a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP). He is fluent in English, French, and Spanish.
