Bolivia allocates $43 million for solar PV and grid improvements

The Bolivian government will allocate $43.2 million to rural electrification works in the departments of Potosí and Chuquisaca, to benefit more than 27,200 homes, reported the Vice Ministry of Electricity and Alternative Energies.
According to the institution, the project will improve electrification and renewable energy access for 14,600 homes in rural areas with additions and improvements to medium and low voltage electricity networks.
In addition, solar PV will be installed on over 12,000 homes and 138 public buildings (schools, medical centers, community centers, etc.) by 2021.

In August 2014, the Government and the International Development Association of the World Bank signed a $50 million credit facility to finance the initiative, which aims to expand and improve the provision of basic infrastructure services and promote rural development.
