The 300 MW Dulces Nombres II power generation facility will boast the latest technology advances according to Iberdrola, which has commissioned the plant in the State of Nuevo León, Mexico. Technology that is more cost-effective will help the $250 million combined cycle power plant to meet the electricity demand of the region’s industrial sector while reducing maintenance needs and improving environmental performance.

Iberdrola plans to commission 10 new power plants by 2020, a mix of gas-fired units and renewable energy projects that total $3 billion in investments. The Dulces Nombres II project will help to increase electricity generation capacity to 6 GW of electricity and bring the company’s total installed capacity to 10,000 MW in Mexico by the end of the decade. Power will be sold to the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) under a 25-year power purchase agreement. Iberdrola CEO and Chairman Ignacio Galán said that the investment in this and other plants is part of the company’s commitment to “supporting the transition to a decarbonized model … for the ultimate benefit of the people of Mexico and their quality of life.”
