Waste-to-energy in Nicaragua – Plans to Build Plant in Managua

Managua’s city council approved a thirty-year operating permit to W2E Eco Energy Investment Nicaragua for a waste-to-energy plant. According to mayor Daysi Torres, the company plans to invest $17 million in the plant, which will be located at the La Chureca landfill and will transform plastic bags into synthetic fuel. The plant will have the capacity for processing 20 tons of plastic per day.

Andres Fernandez, Eco Energy representative said that the company now needs to obtain environmental permits and close their financing gap for the project.
