Two bids handed in for geothermal project in Bolivia

Two bids have been received for the initial 5 MW development of the planned 100MW geothermal power plant at Bolivia’s Laguna Colorada.

These bids are from two international consortia, Italian Exergy in cooperation with French EPC contractor Clemessy, and Spanish construction group Sacyr with Ormat Technologies.

The geothermal project will generate electricity and be connected to the country’s national grid, contributing to Bolivia’s effort to provide access to electricity to rural populations. This plant will also be a concrete step in the transformation of the country’s energy matrix from diesel to geothermal sources for electricity generation.

The project, which is being financed by Bolivia’s Central Bank, is currently in the stage of producing technical design studies before its construction, and is expected to be finalised in May 2020.
