  • Tres Hermanas wind farm increases Peru’s renewables mix

    Peru’s wind and solar energy output increased by 79%  year-on-year to 96 GWh. The opening of the Tres Hermanas wind farm is the source of this increase. The 97 MW site began operating in March. Thus far, Peru has seen an overall 8.3% increase in renewable energy last year.

  • Peru’s current installed wind capacity is 1% of total potential

    This week Peru’s Ministry of Energy reported that the country’s 339.15 MW of wind is only 1% of its total potential wind capacity. At this time, there are four wind farms in Peru, three of which went live in 2014. The largest of these farms, Tres Hermanas, was turned on last month.

  • 155 MW of wind approved in Chile despite violation of indigenous rights

    The Temucuicui Mapuche community of Chile announced its strong opposition to a 155 MW wind farm. The group said that the farm constitutes “plundering, attack and usurpation” of ancestral territory.   • Mexico heading for dramatic wind additions in 2017-18

  • BOEM gets third 400-MW floating wind lease request off Hawaii

    The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management received a lease request for a 400 MW floating wind energy project from Progression Hawaii Offshore Wind. After reviewing the request, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management found that the company is qualified to pursue the lease.

  • Dominican Republic adds 49.5 MW of wind

    Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina SA inaugurated a 49.5 MW wind park in the Dominican Republic. The project, which cost 120 USD and took 18 months to construct, consists of 15 wind turbines. Each turbine has a 3.3 MW capacity.   • Major Wind Energy Project Is Coming to St Lucia

    St. Lucia’s Prime Minister, Dr. Kenny Anthony, announced this week that a 12 MW wind far is on the horizon for the island nation. Once completed, the project could produce as much as 20% of St. Lucia’s electricity needs.

  • BMR Wind Farm to start production soon

    With nine out of eleven wind turbines installed, BMR Jamaica is nearly ready to start energy production. During the 20-year PPA, the 36.3 MW wind farm will sell electricity to JPS for 12.9 cents per kwh. During the year-long construction of the farm, 737 Jamaicans were employed in the project.
