  • Plans for South America’s First Geothermal Plant Underway

    Chile’s state-owned utility and Enel Green Power have signed a contract to begin construction of a 50MW geothermal plant in the Northern region of the country. The project will cost approximately $180 million and will be in operation by the end of 2016.

    After a meeting between Nicaragua’s president, Daniel Ortega, and Klaus Kramer, head of the Division of Regional Development Policy for Central America and the Caribbean of the German Economic Cooperation and Development Ministry, Germany announced the establishment of a line of credit for Central American geothermal projects.     Offering loans from $50,000 – $1 million as part of a clean energy fund to private firms for energy efficiency and self-supply renewable energy, and adaption investments, the Inter-American Development Bank will double its funding for climate and clean energy projects to $100 million.

  • Honduras and South Korea Join Forces on Climate Change

    The South Korean and Honduran leaders met and agreed to cooperate on climate change mitigation strategies, including transitioning to green infrastructure through measures such as improving power transmission, importing electric cars and installing charging stations in Honduras.
