Mexican Geothermal Projects in the Works

Groupo Dragon and the Federal Electricity Commission are in talks to develop a Mexican geothermal project. According to feasibility studies, 700 MW of Mexico’s potential 5000 MW can be easily developed.
Ormat closes $42 refinancing for Amatitlan Geothermal Plant in Guatemala

Updates regarding the Amatitlan Geothermal Plant in Guatemala. In their second quarter results report, Ormat Technologies disclosed a $42 million loan agreement to refinance the Amatitlan geothermal plant in Guatemala with Banco Industrial S.A. and its affiliate Westrust Bank. US Geothermal starts drilling 2nd well in Guatemalan project

Guatemala’s El Ceibillo Project Moves Forward

U.S. Geothermal Inc. Guatemala has been granted approval to modify the development schedule of the El Ceibillo geothermal project. Though the initial request for a schedule modification was submitted in 2013, the change is expected to be signed into action within the next month. The modified schedule will have the project operating commercially by 2018.
Mexico Awards Concessions and Exploration Permits for 5000 MW of Geothermal Power

Last week, Mexico’s Energy Ministry signed on to develop and explore 5,000 MW of geothermal power. A total of five geothermal concessions and 13 exploration permits were awarded to national power utility, Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE).
Plans for South America’s First Geothermal Plant Underway

Chile’s state-owned utility and Enel Green Power have signed a contract to begin construction of a 50MW geothermal plant in the Northern region of the country. The project will cost approximately $180 million and will be in operation by the end of 2016.
