  • IDB doubles climate, clean energy fund to US$100mn

    July 22, 2015

    Offering loans from $50,000 – $1 million as part of a clean energy fund to private firms for energy efficiency and self-supply renewable energy, and adaption investments, the Inter-American Development Bank will double its funding for climate and clean energy projects to $100 million.

  • Hundreds of Barbadians Participate in Free LED Program

    Hundreds of people lined up in Barbados last week for Barbados’ fifth LED give away program. Funded by the Barbados Division of Energy, Caribbean LED Lighting, Inc, and Courts Barbados, the program is an effort to get Barbadians to integrate green measures into their daily lives.

  • PM Breaks Ground for US$60m Solar Energy Plant in Jamaica

    The ground was broken last week on what is to be the largest solar energy plant in the Caribbean. Financed by WRB Enterprises, the array will be connected to the grid by June 2016.

  • Cuba Plans for Wind Farm Construction

    As part of an effort to transition 24% of electricity to renewable sources by 2030, Cuba’s Energy and Mines Minister outlined a plan to construct seven wind farms. Read more about the development of the projects here.  

  • Jamaica to go Live with 200 Million USD of Renewable Projects in 2016

    In 2016, Jamaica will go live with 78 MW of additional renewable projects, including solar and nearly 80 additional MW of wind.

  • Barbados a Champion of Green Energy, Says UN Secretary General

    In a recent tour of a Caribbean LED factory, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon praised Barbados for its commitment to renewable energy. In an address at a green energy symposium, Mr. Ban added that Barbados is “lighting the path to the future.”

  • St Lucia to Begin 2nd Round of Public Consultations on Geothermal Energy

    In order to provide geothermal development updates and transparency, St Lucia’s Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology will start a second round of public consultations next week. This will include survey by aircraft and a data assessment by a geologist. Information will be available to the public by August of 2015.
