Enel Profit Rises on Latin America Demand, Renewables Growth

Increasing rates of electricity use and renewable energy integration in Latin America translates for increased profits for Italian utility, Enel. Profits for the first-half of the year are up 3.4% in Latin America, whereas in Italy, where energy usage is on the decline, profits have decreased by a half percentage point.

Guatemala’s El Ceibillo Project Moves Forward

U.S. Geothermal Inc. Guatemala has been granted approval to modify the development schedule of the El Ceibillo geothermal project. Though the initial request for a schedule modification was submitted in 2013, the change is expected to be signed into action within the next month. The modified schedule will have the project operating commercially by 2018.
Mexico Awards Concessions and Exploration Permits for 5000 MW of Geothermal Power

Last week, Mexico’s Energy Ministry signed on to develop and explore 5,000 MW of geothermal power. A total of five geothermal concessions and 13 exploration permits were awarded to national power utility, Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE).
Germany to provide $112mm for Geothermal in Central America

After a meeting between Nicaragua’s president, Daniel Ortega, and Klaus Kramer, head of the Division of Regional Development Policy for Central America and the Caribbean of the German Economic Cooperation and Development Ministry, Germany announced the establishment of a line of credit for Central American geothermal projects. Honduras and South Korea Join Forces on Climate Change
