Proposed law would enable Puerto Rico, USVI to build offshore wind

A bill that would enable U.S. territories to build offshore windfarms has been approved by the Committee on Natural Resources and moved to the full House of Representatives for consideration. All members of Congress representing U.S. territories have voiced their support for the bill. Tim Charters, of the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) called the move “long overdue” and expressed his belief that the Offshore Wind for Territories Act would strengthen the islands’ energy security, “while providing jobs and economic growth for their residents”.

NOIA representatives also added that offshore wind has significant potential for drawing investment to American military bases in the region.
