Mexico’s renewables future uncertain

Investor interest in Mexico’s emerging renewables market was at an all-time high in December 2018 after the three clean energy auctions were hailed a success. Now, expectations have hit rock-bottom, the market is in tatters — and the coronavirus pandemic is making things worse. As the government continues to divert its focus from achieving environmental goals to protecting the state-owned utility market share, analysts believe Mexico will miss its 35% renewables target by 2024.
