LAC geothermal market to convene in Mexico City for GEOLAC 2017

New Energy Events, with our co-hosts at The World Bank, is excited to announce that the  4th Annual Geothermal Congress for Latin America and the Caribbean (GEOLAC) will take place in Mexico City from April 25th – 26th.

As the Caribbean and Latin America search for ways to develop sustainable energy resources to meet growing power demands, geothermal energy continues to emerge as a vital piece of the puzzle. Geothermal markets in Mexico have opened to private developers, Caribbean islands are resolutely pushing projects towards meaningful progress, Central America continues to be a geothermal powerhouse, and the Andean countries are making steady, if occasionally stop-start, progress towards tapping into their extensive geothermal resources. The stage is set for the region’s only annual meeting of the geothermal market.

GEOLAC 2017 will also explore prospects for regional geothermal development in an era of historically low renewable costs. Are governments valuing geothermal appropriately given its ability to deliver firm capacity? How do developers view the regional markets vs. geothermal markets world-wide? Which markets and which projects are making and breaking ground?

GEOLAC 2017 will also feature a complimentary half day workshop on the Geothermal Development Facility for Latin America (GDF), the new 50m EUR fund to support early development risk in geothermal projects. The workshop will provide attendees with opportunities to explore and coordinate on existing and planned programs utilizing GDF funds.

Since its launch in 2012, GEOLAC has served as a meeting place for government, utilities, developers, multilaterals and financiers to understand current market trends, explore growth opportunities, facilitate new relationships, and to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
