Hajime Takeuchi, the Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has confirmed he will participate in GEOLAC 2017. JICA’s perspective, as one of the biggest financiers of geothermal across the region, is particularly germane to broader discussions at GEOLAC this year around the long-term competitiveness of geothermal in LAC. JICA made headlines in 2016 when it confirmed a $234 million loan for the construction of the Borinquen I geothermal power plant in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. A further $300m is earmarked for Las Pailas and Borinquen II.
