A partnership between the Government of Antigua and Texas-based Thermal Energy Partners could provide geothermal energy to power a turbine 24 hours a day. Prospecting in the southwest of Antigua and Barbuda will begin once an MOU has been signed between the two entities; the Antiguan Cabinet has thus authorized the Prime Minister to sign such an agreement. Thermal Energy Partners says that a geothermal plant could produce 10 MW of electricity and would be cheaper than solar. The company has received funding from the US Government to undertake mapping of the Islands’ terrain.
