The 7th Geothermal Congress for Latin America & the Caribbean (GEOLAC 2020) went virtual for 2020! The main event took place September 15-17, 2020 and was followed by two workshops hosted by GDF, KfW and the IDB on October 8, 2020.

Will the industry succeed in persuading the region that geothermal is an effective, reliable and economic source of baseload? Can geothermal play a role in re-activating Latin American economies post-Covid and responding to the need to decarbonize? Will we see significant engagement of geothermal with the extractives, industrial or agricultural sectors, and what will this mean for the industry? GEOLAC 2020 explored these questions and more with the leading experts in the industry.

Co-hosted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), GEOLAC is the only annual gathering of the regional geothermal market. With unique, interactive content, GEOLAC Virtual addressed the challenges facing the industry, showcased national projects and initiatives, and explored opportunities for new partnerships and programs to drive the industry forward.

Ultimately GEOLAC served to accelerate the development of world-class geothermal projects across Latin America and the Caribbean.
