Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren has released a Blue New Deal—indicating a growing US focus on issues related to the Blue Economy. The comprehensive plan focuses on ocean conservation, marine renewable energy and related industries. Included in the proposal are support for offshore clean energy, community benefit agreements, and new standards for sustainable ocean farming. The deal would also end new permits for offshore drilling, while phasing out existing permits. If Warren is elected president, these ambitious plans would still need support from Congress.
