Chong is an Energy Specialist at the World Bank, specializing in power system planning and operations, energy storage, and the integration of variable renewable energy (VRE), electric mobility, and smart grids. With more than 12 years of experience in the power sector, he is currently part of the World Bank’s Energy team for Latin America and the Caribbean, with a particular focus on the Caribbean region.

Previously, as part of the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), Chong co-led the ESMAP Energy Storage Program and managed its energy portfolio in the Maldives. Throughout his career at the World Bank, he has contributed to a range of investment operations and technical assistance activities supporting the energy transition in small island developing states (SIDS) and countries across Sub-Saharan Africa. His work has focused on developing comprehensive energy sector strategies and advancing cost-effective and sustainable solutions for renewable energy integration, energy storage, and power system planning and operations.

Before joining the World Bank, Chong worked at LS Industrial Systems, specializing in power transmission and distribution systems. He holds a Ph.D. in power systems engineering, with a research focus on the integration of variable renewable energy into power systems.
