Chile Cerro Pabellón plant expected to start operations by mid-2017

ENAP and Enel Green Power estimate that the Cerro Pabellón plant in Chile will start operations in mid-2017.

According to Marcelo Tokman, CEO of ENAP, major components of the plant must be pre-assembled and delivered to the site due to the high-altitude of the project location. The 48 MW plant will be built at 4,500 meters (15,000 feet) above sea level.

Other concessions must be made due to the plant altitude. Mr. Tokman added that “the geothermal fluid will never take contact with the atmosphere and cooling towers to be installed will be ” air-cooled “, which will prevent water freezing problems during plant shutdowns, a risk that would be present with the operation of a flash-based power plant.”
