Uruguay is advancing decarbonization with the Kahirós green hydrogen project, the country’s first large-scale initiative to produce and use green hydrogen for heavy transport, launched in December 2025 with over US$30 million in investment. Financed by Grupo Santander, IFC, and the UN-backed Renewable Energy Innovation Fund (REIF), the project supports Uruguay’s clean energy transition.
