Colbún launches its first industrial green hydrogen plant at Nehuenco Power Complex

Chilean energy company Colbún inaugurated its first industrial green hydrogen plant at the Nehuenco thermoelectric complex in Quillota, using photovoltaic energy to produce hydrogen for generator cooling instead of gray hydrogen. The US$1.6 million facility, which operates off-grid and includes a 100 kW solar park, batteries, an electrolyzer, and storage tanks, forms part of Nehuenco’s modernization plan to improve efficiency and reduce emissions. The plant can supply energy equivalent to over 570,000 homes and follows Colbún’s earlier green hydrogen project at a Peruvian power plant.
