Costa Rica Submits Geothermal Direct Use Legislation for Consultation

Costa Rica is in an important position to begin increasing their direct use of Geothermal resources. However, due to barriers like the lack of a nationwide regulatory framework, the significant potential for geothermal direct use in Costa Rica remains at arm’s length. In response, the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) invited stakeholders and other actors to a technical analysis session on the proposed bill for the direct use of geothermal resources. After the consultation process and the necessary adjustments are made to the bill, they will be able to present it to the Legislative Assembly in March 2022 for its respective approval process.
