50MW wind farm in the Dominican Republic starts operations

The 50MW wind farm PECASA was inaugurated yesterday in the Dominican Republic.

This is one of the Dominican Republic’s largest renewable energy projects. Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina highlighted the importance of this new wind farm in helping diversify the nation’s energy matrix.

This new clean energy source will allow to further reduce fuel consumption -reducing greenhouse gases by 91 000 tons of carbon monoxide per year- and will support a sustainable economic development.

The project was led by Akuo Energy, a global renewable energy company, in partnership with the IFC and Siemens Financial Services, and with the support of the Canadian government.

Eric Scotto, CEO of Akuo Energy said: “The size of this project matches the Dominican government’s ambitions regarding its energy transition. President Danilo Mendina presence is an illustration of just how important this project is for the country”.
