Winners of inaugural Caribbean Infrastructure Industry Awards announced

New Energy Events, hosts of the Caribbean Infrastructure Forum (CARIF), the largest annual gathering of the regional infrastructure market, announced today the four winners of its inaugural CARIF Industry Awards. The Awards – which recognize excellence and innovation in the delivery of Caribbean infrastructure policy, projects, and financings – were honored on stage at the 7th annual CARIF in Miami. CARIF is organized in partnership with CIBC FirstCaribbean and KPMG, with the support of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

THE WINNERS OF THE CARIF 2023 INDUSTRY AWARDS:

  • 2022-23 Infrastructure Leader MVP: Dr. The Hon. Nigel Clarke, Minister of Finance and the Public Service of Jamaica
  • Best/Most Innovative Financing: Pavilion East, Cricket Square, Orchid Development
  • Best/Most Innovative Project: Gene Thompson Radiotherapy Centre – Health City Cayman Island
  • Best Policy or Public Sector Program: Decision on Energy Storage Framework and Tariffs – Fair Trading Commission, Barbados

The CARIF Industry Awards are judged by an independent panel of industry experts from across the region. The Awards recognize leaders across the Caribbean who have made, and are making, a lasting impact on the development of resilient and sustainable infrastructure in the region.

Michelle Ottey, Senior Investment Officer and Head of Transaction Advisory Services in Public Private Partnerships for the Caribbean from the IFC: “I was honored to be a part of the first ever CARIF Awards Committee recognizing excellence among the infrastructure industry in the region. We had many inspiring and innovative submissions, and we were able to showcase projects and recognize individuals that are paving the way for Caribbean Infrastructure”

Dustin Delany, Chair and Chief Managing Partner of Dentons Delany: “Determining our winners was not only an exciting exercise but also an encouraging one appreciating what both the private sector and our regional governments are accomplishing throughout the Caribbean within this space; not only with our winners in Barbados, Cayman and Jamaica but all candidates throughout region. All the submissions were solid and though the decision making in selecting the ultimate winners was an arduous one it also illustrated the tremendous progress stakeholders have made and continue to progress.”

Matthew Perks, CEO of New Energy Events: “We are inspired by the innovation and determination shown by the 2023 CARIF Industry Award winners and by the impact that they are having in stimulating economic growth, accelerating decarbonization, and building resilience across the Caribbean. We are very grateful to our judges on the selection committee who had the challenge of choosing four winners from a strong pool of entrants.”
