Uruguay plans to add 500 MW of new renewable energy capacity by 2030, including four new solar plants, as part of efforts to meet rising electricity demand and support industrial growth and electric mobility. Energy Minister Fernanda Cardona said the strategy will prioritize solar PV, including the 100 MWp Melo solar park currently under construction, alongside hybrid renewable projects and a forthcoming microgeneration decree.
