Uruguay reviews potential relocation of HIF global green hydrogen project

Uruguay is reviewing the location of HIF Global’s large green hydrogen and e-fuels project in Paysandú, including the possibility of relocating it within the department, after objections from Argentina over environmental and visual impacts near the Uruguay River. Talks between Uruguay and Argentina are ongoing, while local officials evaluate alternative industrial sites with better logistics. The project, which includes a 1,162 MW solar plant and a 1 GW electrolyzer, aims to produce synthetic fuels using captured CO₂, and remains under review as both countries negotiate concerns.
