RenewableUK
Deputy Chief Executive
Melanie Onn joined RenewableUK in March 2020 as Deputy Chief Executive.
Her role includes developing senior level political relationships; supporting RenewableUK’s supply chain members to network and identify early business opportunities; identifying the skilled workforce the industry needs across the whole country as a Sector Deal Sponsor on the Offshore Wind Industry Council. She also has a focus on opening up the sector to more women and people from ethnic minority backgrounds. She has launched the Renewable Sector’s first Just Transition tracker, establishing a cross energy-industry roundtable to support joint action on fair changes in the energy shift and hosts the well received ‘Power-Onn’ podcast. Melanie co-leads on public speaking and media facing activity for the organisation.
Melanie was elected twice as Labour MP for Great Grimsby, serving from May 2015 to November 2019, including periods as Shadow Housing Minister and Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons as well as serving on the Environment and Climate Change Committee and Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committees. Prior to that she worked for the country’s largest public sector trade union as a senior organiser and was a governance and compliance lead for an in-government political party before that.
