Solar farm in Guyana to start construction

A 1MW solar farm is to be constructed in Lethem, Guyana.

The $564 million project is pending approval from the international tender.

Once approval is received, the project should enter into commission within the year. The solar farm will replace the diesel-based electricity supply with a stable and clean energy source. The Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson, announced Lethem will be fully operable on renewable energy within two-and-a-half years.

This project, along with solar farms in Mabaruma and Mahdia, are part of a government initiative to provide these outlying areas with access to a reliable energy source by 2020.
