Siemens signs energy cooperation agreement with Cuban utility

An ongoing partnership between Siemens AG and the Cuba will grow further with a new plan to modernize the energy infrastructure of the country. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the German company and the Unión Eléctrica (UNE) gives Siemens the opportunity to work on projects in the field of of power generation, transmission and distribution, renewable energy and automation sectors. The agreement will allow for closer technical cooperation between Germany and Cuba, and provides Siemens the opportunity to supply generation technology to existing and future power plants in Cuba. Siemens has already begun training activities with for UNE personnel; in Cuba for now, with plans to expand trainings to Latin America and  globally in the future. The Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines has a goal to provide cost-efficient and renewable energy to 11 million Cuban people and Siemens AG is planning to be a long-term partner in Cuban development.
