Seven Caribbean countries will receive assistance from UAE fund

The second round of the UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund was launched on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, taking place this week. The second round will see the $50 million fund establishing partnerships with 7 Caribbean countries, including the Dominican Republic, Belize, Grenada, Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment for the UAE, stated that the UAE has a prominent international role in promoting renewable energy solutions and finding effective solutions to key challenges facing renewable energy projects and innovations, which is reflected in the availability of necessary funding and investments in the country.

The first site visits for the second round (cycle 2) will start early February. Initial focus will be given to St. Lucia, Haiti, and Belize given the existing correspondence with governments. During this time, the UAE will also continue work with countries given funding under Cycle 1. A visit to Dominica will revisit the site (post hurricane, as development and funding agreements were agreed to prior to hurricane) and finalize the scope of work. The following countries will have an EPC contract signing and EPC kick-off meeting: Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Bahamas.
