São Paulo metro secures 15-year renewable energy deal to power trains and cut emissions

The São Paulo Metro has signed a 15-year contract with CGN Brasil and Pontoon Energia to supply renewable energy from the Lagoa do Barro Complex in Piauí, powering trains on key metro lines starting in 2027. The initiative, expected to save nearly US$2 million will also prevent over 200,000 tons of CO₂ emissions, promoting sustainability and advancing the energy transition in public transportation.
