Nevis will focus on geothermal energy only for its renewables

In pursuit of a sustainable energy program the federal government, will concentrate its efforts in geothermal energy, and therefore will not be actively pursuing other forms of renewable energy. The Hon. Mark Brantley, premier of Nevis and the Minister of Energy, stated that geothermal developers believe that the island has enough resources to satisfy the total energy needs of the country.

The country has signed a PPA with the country’s National Electricity Company and Nevis Renewable Energy International. The first phase of the project aims to supply 9 MW of power with the potential to expand and provide 40-50 MW of additional power and potentially start exporting electricity to neighbouring islands.
