LAC poised for solar capacity surge

A new report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) indicates that Latin America and the Caribbean could grow their installed solar capacity by a factor of 40 in the next 30 years. By 2050, solar PV would be the second-largest power source behind wind, with the potential to employ over 18 million people. An exponential increase in installed capacity for off-grid solar PV, and its flexible application makes solar an especially attractive option in the race to bring resilient, reliable, renewable power to developing countries, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal of universal energy access.
