Jamaica issues RFP for energy storage system

Jamaica Public Service (JPS) wishes to commission a 13MW or 24.5MW hybrid energy storage system consisting of both flywheels and Lithium Ion battery energy storage.  The purpose of the system will be to affect general system stability through mitigation of renewable ramp rates, frequency support, voltage support and spinning reserve provision.  The storage system will be installed at the JPS Hunts Bay Substation and will be interconnected to JPS’ system via a 69/24kV 25/33 MVA step-up transformer.  All bids must meet the minimum experience and technical requirements to perform the outlined work required for the JPS Hybrid Energy Storage System Project to meet operational deadline of June 30, 2018.
