The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$15 million loan to improve water and electricity sustainability on Rapa Nui (Easter Island), Chile. The program aims to enhance water efficiency, reduce fossil fuel reliance, and strengthen the local utility, SASIPA, benefiting over 3,800 customers and the island’s tourism-dependent economy. Given Rapa Nui’s remote location and resource challenges, the initiative will help ensure more sustainable essential services for both residents and visitors.
