Hybrid solar farm in Guyana to be commissioned soon

Guyana’s Department of Public Information and its Ministry of Public Infrastructure announced that the construction and installation of the GYD 264 million solar farm in Mabaruma is now complete.

This hybrid solar system will add significant diversity to the region’s energy mix, providing renewable energy to 75 percent of the community. The last phase of the project before it enters into commission is the automatic switching mechanism from the solar power to the generator, for use on overcast days.

This initiative, part of the government’s plan to have Guyana become a “Green State”, will allow for lower energy costs and reliance on fossil fuels, as well as decreased carbon emissions.

This is one of many solar projects the government of Guyana is pursuing: further project are under planning phase in Lethem, Mahdia, and Bartica.
