María José García is the Executive Director of the Inter-American Cement Federation -FICEM- since 2008; organization that represents cement production companies, institutes and associations in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal.

FICEM’s mission is to disseminate and strengthen the statements of the global cement agenda, such as climate protection, energy efficiency, the use of alternative fuels and raw materials; as well as the promotion of good practices in the use of cement and concrete through their applications (housing, pavements, infrastructure, among others.). In the same way, FICEM leads the efforts of the regional cement industry in terms of adaptation to climate change and mitigation of GHG emissions and its contribution to a circular economy, aligned with the commitments set in COP21 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Throughout her professional career, María José has been characterized by her leadership skills, entrepreneurial spirit and strategic vision, which are evidenced as president of different financial entities, such as: commercial and mortgage banks, financial corporations and trust entities in Colombia; as well as a member of different boards of directors.

It currently represents the cement industry in the region in world scenarios and projects, with an increasingly wide scope, the initiatives and achievements of the industry in Latin America and the Caribbean around sustainability issues through coordination from a wide network of regional and international partners.
