Guyana launches net billing program to expand rooftop solar and boost distributed energy generation

Guyana has launched a net billing program to promote the adoption of rooftop photovoltaic systems up to 100 kW, with larger systems allowed based on customer demand and grid approval. The initiative, led by the Guyana Energy Agency and GPL Inc., enables users to earn credits for excess energy fed into the grid, with unused credits payable annually at 90% of the current rate. The program aims to expand distributed solar generation, lower electricity costs, and support sustainable energy use.
