EIB grants US$300 million to modernize and expand Panama’s electricity grid

The European Investment Bank has signed a US$300 million loan with Naturgy to modernize and expand Panama’s electricity distribution networks through its subsidiaries EDEMET and EDECHI. The funding will upgrade grid infrastructure, improve reliability, reduce losses, and connect new users. This is the EIB’s largest private-sector loan in Central America and forms part of the EU’s Global Gateway agenda and Panama’s Paris Agreement commitments.
