EDP has begun operations at its Punta de Talca battery energy storage system (BESS) in Ovalle, Chile, marking its first storage project in South America. The facility has 240 MWh of installed capacity and an estimated annual storage output of 60 GWh, and is designed to support a nearby wind farm by reducing curtailment and shifting renewable energy to peak demand periods.
