Ecuador launches 2,100 MW tender for new electricity projects highlighting large-scale solar

Ecuador announced a tender for 2,100 MW of new electricity projects, with photovoltaic solar playing a central role, including large-scale parks like Santa Elena (200 MW) and Zapotillo (1,500 MW). The projects, open to national and international developers, aim to complement hydro generation, reduce reliance on thermal power, and strengthen grid security, with 970 MW of non-conventional renewables expected online by 2027–2028.
